Sky Blue Nudibranch

The main attraction of our Andaman Collection is Sky Blue Phyllidia Nudibranch – also known as “fried-egg nudibranch” for its bright round yellow spots that resemble a yummy sunny side up!

It is probably the most frequently seen nudibranch in tropical Indo-Pacific. The phyllidiids or fried-egg nudibranch are a group of firm, tough-bodied dorids in which the usual circlet of gills are replaced by leaf like secondary gills under the mantle skirt.

Even though they look mighty delicious, these sea slugs are masters of chemical defense and contain a chemical mucus poisonous to fish and crustaceans. They are capable of killing all life in the aquarium if stressed in any way, so better leave them be when seen in the ocean.
