Boxfish
Whale, hello there!
This cute spotted Boxfish got its name from the box-like shape and are closely related to Pufferfish, although they can’t puff up like their cousins. The male is the more colorful one; with a blue lower body and a yellow line around the upper body, while the top is black with white or yellow dots. The female is entirely black with whitish/yellowish dots. They grow to roughly 40 centimeters in length.
White spotted boxfish are found across the Indo-pacific area, mainly in lagoons and protected reefs from a depth of 1 to 30 meters. They live in small groups with one male to several females.
Boxfish carry bacteria that can be found in their skin, providing them with protection against predators. They advertise this toxicity by being brightly colored so, make sure to only look and not touch!
